Gina Anderson’s unfortunate experience with fillers went wrong.
Gina Davidson, an Oregon-based neurologist, regretted the lack of research when she sought a way to enhance her appearance at 40. “A colleague offered to do fillers for me, and it was like ‘well, I’m in my 40s, I’m going to look a little bit better,’” she said on the reality TV series Botched.
Gina believed she was receiving popular fillers like Restylane or Juvederm, but the unexpected injection of silicone altered her entire experience.
Her eye and cheek inflammation resulted from silicone exposure.
Gina Anderson suffered severe deformities due to illegal silicone injections. Her right eye and cheek were inflamed, while her left side received the silicone. After four years, the devastating effects became evident, resulting in a granuloma.
Granulomas, as explained by Mayo Clinic experts, serve as the body’s defense mechanism, activating to combat foreign bodies and prevent bacterial spread.
Although the granuloma on Gina’s cheek and eye had good intentions, it ultimately became a horrifying nightmare.
Gina Anderson says “It just went boom”
Within a few days, the granuloma in Gina’s memory rapidly expanded, ultimately bursting open unexpectedly.
“All of a sudden, it just went boom, and there’s just huge granulomas,” Gina shared.
Realizing the urgency, Gina sought assistance, undergoing five corrective surgeries to extract the silicone. Unfortunately, none resolved the issue as the granulomas persisted, leaving her with an unsightly and significant facial cavity.
“I had to close [my practice]. You can’t sleep, and you’re in constant pain. It’s hard to think on your feet all the time. This isn’t just me looking slightly pretty. I’m in agony, I don’t sleep, my hair started thinning kind of like a hair loss. And I just started feeling kind of weak and fatigued. It’s been a nightmare,” she said.
Unable to find the necessary assistance, Gina sought the expertise of renowned plastic surgeons Dr. Terry Dubrow and Dr. Paul Nassif, famous for their appearances on the show Botched.
“When you get a granuloma, which is a foreign body inflammatory reaction, that typically happens between six months to a year. The fact that Gina didn’t start developing those granulomas until way later indicates it’s a very slow, smoldering inflammatory chronic response that could be potentially very, very difficult if not impossible to treat,” Dr. Dubrow explained.
Her surgeries journey at Botched clinic
Gina underwent five surgeries to eliminate the cheek hole, followed by two additional procedures at the Botched clinic. During the initial surgery, Dr. Paul Nassif discovered and removed an unusual object resembling gauze. With the surgeries complete, Gina experienced relief from pain and improved sleep.
She said: “I’m just really grateful now that I have a chance to reclaim my life because things were starting to look dismal. This is the best I’ve felt in a long time, so I’m just really crossing my fingers that this is really the end of my personal hell.”
However, Gina’s relief from pain and improved sleep were short-lived as complications arose from the initial procedure, resulting in the reemergence of swelling in her cheek.
Dr. Nassif identified recurrent seromas as the issue, leaving Gina with no option but to undergo surgery once more. He said: “My only alternative at this point is to open her up again, look for the capsule of the seroma, and remove it completely, and hopefully, this will be it.”

The doctor added: “For some reason, Gina’s body is constantly making fluid in her cheek following her first surgery. Why is this happening? I don’t know. This just goes to show you that you can never predict what’s going to happen in regards to healing after you operate on a face that has had silicone injected into it.”
Gina’s second attempt yielded the desired outcome, leaving her “unbelievably happy” as her face returned to normal. The exceptional work of the doctors set the stage for her fresh start.
Gina’s latest picture on Botched reveals her happiness and terrific transformation after the second procedure.
“My energy level is increasing, and actually, my mood has gotten better,” she said. “My hair loss has stopped, and actually, my hair is starting to grow back. My thought process is actually getting faster. I mean, it’s just a miracle. It’s just life-changing,” she added.
