After her appearance on the TV show, Lisa Appleton faced battles with depression and compulsive overeating.
She grappled with a pork sausage dependency, consuming as many as 50 sausages a day. Lisa rose to prominence through Big Brother 9. Alongside Malcone, they became the inaugural couple to be engaged on the show and later wed on Channel 4’s The Wedding House.
However, their eight-and-a-half-year partnership ended in 2013. Lisa revealed persistent unhappiness, exacerbated by falling victim to a con by Selva Carmicheal. This deception led to six months of camera surveillance for a fabricated show, marking the breaking point.
Fifteen years post reality show fame, the former Big Brother icon turns to delivery driving for financial stability.
Discussing her fresh role as an Amazon delivery driver, Lisa was captured in a high-vis jacket during deliveries in Cheshire.
She shared with The Sun: “Obviously, with the lockdown, a lot of my projects at the time got canceled. So, in the meantime, because of the cost of living and stuff like that, food has gone up, everything has gone up. ‘I can’t believe the prices sometimes; they have added a pound to things. Electricity’s gone up so I thought as a boost to my income I would get a job at Amazon.”
Yet, she contemplates quitting her fledgling career, citing the pressure to complete all deliveries within a day and the discomfort of working in rainy conditions.
Dubbed The Silver Fox, Carmichael allegedly shattered her marriage with Malcone through deceit, following exhaustive 18-hour documentary shoots aimed at fame.
Lisa revealed Big Brother’s life-altering effect, catching her off-guard with overnight stardom. The reality celebrity described overwhelming attention, declining numerous magazine, newspaper, and photoshoot offers.
During her conversation with Mail Online, she mentioned: “I had suicidal thoughts. I hit rock bottom. After Big Brother and all the success, I lost it all. I felt I had lost everything – my career, my marriage, everything, that I felt rock bottom. I felt so low that I just wasn’t enjoying life anymore. I felt emotional. I had a complete breakdown.”
She confessed to grappling with homelessness, as she couldn’t cover her expenses, leading her to reside in a £5-per-night treehouse.
After overcoming her battle with comfort and binge eating, Lisa successfully halted the habit temporarily. However, the onset of Covid-19 pushed her back to where she started.

She informed Closer magazine: “I relapsed and went back to my sausage addiction for the first three weeks of lockdown. I was probably eating about ten a day,’ Lisa says. ‘Everyone was panic-buying toilet roll, but I was panic-buying sausages to stock up! I thought I’d rather make sure I had enough sausages to bring me comfort.”
She added: “I just went into a complete panic, so I was buying tons and freezing them. The temptation was too much. Although I wasn’t eating as many a day as during my last addiction, this phase went to a different extreme me trying every variety of sausage – chorizo, chipolata, frankfurters, garlic, pork and sage, etc. I got into the German sausage. It’s all in that first bite – it’s pure comfort food to me.”
