A father in Texas will not face criminal charges after his 23-year-old daughter was fatally shot during a confrontation over politics, including discussions about President Donald Trump.
Lucy Harrison, visiting from the United Kingdom, was shot in the chest at her father’s home in Prosper, Texas, on January 10, 2025, and later died from her injuries.
Court testimony revealed that Lucy and her father had engaged in a “big argument” about Trump just before his second inauguration, with tensions reportedly building for days. During one exchange, Lucy asked how he would feel if she were the victim in a hypothetical sexual assault scenario. Her boyfriend testified that her father responded, “it would not upset him that much because he had two other daughters.” Lucy became visibly upset and went upstairs.
Minutes later, just before she was due to leave for the airport, her father led her into his bedroom. Seconds after, a gunshot was heard.
Kris Harrison told police that he had been watching the news and offered to show Lucy his Glock handgun. “I heard a loud bang and did not understand what had happened,” he said. He admitted to drinking that day and later stated he could not recall whether his finger was on the trigger.
Although initially investigated as potential manslaughter, a Collin County grand jury declined to indict him. Authorities have treated the incident as an accidental discharge, and no charges will be filed.
The case highlights the risks of familial estrangement over political differences. Lucy’s mother described her as “passionate and outspoken, someone who cared deeply about the issues she debated.”
