Major, a shelter dog from Indiana, is a heartbreaking example. For over 260 days, he has been crying nonstop after being rejected by his former owners. Despite this, the staff at Hamilton County Humane Society in Indiana remains hopeful that he will one day find the perfect family.
Major, a four-year-old terrier and pit bull mix, initially maintained a positive spirit despite his heartbreaking abandonment. According to the Humane Society, he was a “sweet and sensitive” dog who loved to play, especially with his Jolly Ball. Described as a “true companion with a big heart,” Major quickly became a favorite among the staff, earning the affectionate nicknames “Major Hunk” and “Major Heartthrob.” Unfortunately, despite his lovable personality, adopters continued to pass him by.
As time went on, the repeated rejection took a toll on Major. The shelter staff noticed a decline in his once-playful demeanor. “His spunky personality is dimming,” the Humane Society shared on Facebook. “This once-jovial boy who loved balls now sits in his room and sobs nonstop.”

To ease his stress, Major has been moved from the kennels to the visiting room
The shelter knows that finding him a forever home as soon as possible is the best solution. He would do best in a home without small children or cats.
Major generally gets along with other dogs. He isn’t always aware of his own strength. So a meet-and-greet is recommended for potential adopters. He may not be the right fit for every household, but there must be someone out there who would be the perfect match for this affectionate and energetic pup.
“Are ready to welcome a loving, strong, and playful friend into your life? This is the one for you,” reads Major’s adoption listing.
After so much time in the shelter, it’s heartbreaking to see Major feeling so lost and defeated. Hopefully, his forever family finds him soon! Please help spread the word about this sweet dog by sharing his story.
