Named Romulus and Remus, the pups were born on October 1, 2024. This marks a milestone in the field of de-extinction and genetic engineering.

The two animals were brought back from extinction using advanced genetic editing techniques. This was based on a fully reconstructed dire wolf genome. The genome was meticulously assembled from an ancient DNA. Which was found in fossils dating back between 11,500 and 72,000 years.

“This is more than a company milestone—it’s a turning point for science, conservation, and humanity,” Colossal Biosciences stated. “With the birth of Romulus and Remus, de-extinction has moved from theory to reality.”

The achievement is the result of years of groundbreaking research and innovation. This has been seen as a leap forward in efforts to restore lost biodiversity. The company invites the public to follow the pups’ development on its YouTube channel, with a link available in their bio.

Colossal’s announcement signals a bold new chapter in science, raising both possibilities and questions about the future of genetic technology and conservation.
