Married swingers April and Scott Shirley describe Hedonism II in Jamaica as a place where guests can break free from rules and fully embrace freedom.
Travelers who book a stay at Hedonism II in Negril, Jamaica, are well aware they’re not signing up for an ordinary Caribbean getaway. Since opening in 1981, the resort has marketed itself as the “world’s best sex hotel,” earning its reputation as a clothing-optional haven for adults eager to explore their desires.
The experience includes everything from dungeon-style playrooms to workshops on oral sex techniques. Guests can roam nude across six pools, soak in the famous hot tub, or relax on the designated nude beach.
In recent years, the resort has expanded its offerings with a sex-themed fitness space, thanks to April and Scott Shirley, a couple from Alabama who run Naughty Gym — a fitness program blending exercise with intimacy and sexual openness. Since 2023, they’ve hosted their own wellness event at Hedonism II, combining workouts with erotic-themed sessions.
Scott, 53, who has been married to April, 47, for five years, told The Sun: “We’ve tried to bring, for our workout week, a little less of a focus on the parties, even though we bring educators from all over the world to come in and talk about different sexual topics and relationship issues.”
“Some of them are vanilla issues about dealing with jealousy or communication, and then some of them are as X-rated as demonstrations on how to give good oral sex.”
April elaborated on the program: “During our week, we have a sex therapist who comes in and she will have classes on how to implement better techniques. And they’ll have a person that they are demonstrating on.”
“This is in a place called the Kama Sutra Palace. It’s a building and there are mattresses in there.”
She added: “These are experts who have been doing this for years, and they show you how to think outside the box. They have an afternoon pool party and then they have a late-night pool party that typically goes to 2am or 3am in the morning.”
While parties dominate the atmosphere, Scott noted the resort caters to all comfort levels: “The whole experience can be as mild or as wild as you want it to be.”
According to him, Hedonism II draws visitors from across the globe: “Every country is represented,” he said, mentioning that even some Brits join the mix.
For April, the real appeal lies in the freedom to be authentic: “It attracts people who are looking for a release from their everyday life, tucking in who they really are. They can come here, and they can have really open conversations.”
“Within 5 to 10 minutes of meeting somebody there, you’re going to start having a conversation that you cannot have in any other part of your life, because people are going to work and they’re hiding who they really are.”
