Paris, France — Tragedy has struck the family of 12-year-old Lola Daviet, whose brutal murder in 2022 shocked France and reignited national debate over immigration policies. Her father, Johan Daviet, has reportedly died, two years after losing his daughter in one of the most horrifying crimes in recent memory.

Lola was found dead on October 14, 2022, in a trunk inside the courtyard of her family’s apartment building in Paris. The young girl had been tortured, raped, and murdered. Her killer, Dahbia Benkired, a 24-year-old Algerian woman, was later arrested and charged with acts of barbarity. At the time of the crime, Benkired was under an “obligation to leave French territory” (OQTF) after overstaying her student visa.

In October 2025, a Paris court handed Benkired a full-life prison sentence — the harshest penalty under French law — recognizing the extreme cruelty of her actions. She became the first woman in France to receive an irreducible life term.

According to reports from Le Monde and People, Lola’s father, Johan, died in February 2024. Those close to the family said he had been struggling deeply since his daughter’s murder, reportedly battling alcoholism and declining health. While the exact cause of death has not been made public, his passing has been widely described as the devastating aftermath of unbearable grief.

The murder of Lola Daviet remains a symbol of national outrage, sparking widespread calls for stricter enforcement of expulsion orders and reforms to France’s immigration system. Political leaders across the spectrum expressed condolences to the family while condemning attempts to politicize the tragedy.

“Lola’s death tore through the heart of the nation. We owe it to her family to ensure justice, not division,” one French lawmaker said following the sentencing.

The case of Lola Daviet — and now the death of her father — continues to serve as a somber reminder of the lasting human toll behind France’s most painful criminal and social debates.
