A “dead” woman in Ecuador, Bella Montoya, aged 76, who was believed to have passed away after suffering a stroke, was found alive in a startling turn of events before her burial.
“Cardiorespiratory arrest due to suffering from an unspecified cerebrovascular disease,” was the reason mentioned in her death certificate.
Montoya’s family quickly organized her burial, unaware of her continued existence. Yet, moments before her interment, a stunning revelation emerged—she was found breathing and exhibiting unmistakable signs of life.
After being admitted to the ICU, the woman’s case will undergo investigation, as her son intends to file a report accusing the hospital of negligence.
As loved ones mourned Bella’s supposed demise, she remained inside her casket for hours during the wake.
To their astonishment, as they prepared her for burial and changed her clothes, they realized she was still alive, breathing against all odds. Gilbert Balberán, her son, said for the local newspaper El Universo: “My mother started to move the left hand, open her eyes, the mouth. She was making an effort to breathe.”
In viral social media footage, Ms. Montoya’s astonishing gasps for breath capture the attention of a growing crowd surrounding her.
Upon discovering Bella’s surprising revival, concerned individuals swiftly contacted emergency services, who promptly arrived to transport her to the nearest hospital. Diligent paramedics closely observed her vital signs throughout the rushed journey.
In a remarkable turn of events, the woman is now undergoing treatment in the very same intensive care unit where her demise was first announced, as reported by the BBC.
Given the remarkably brief time frame, Gilbert vividly recounts the sequence of events as utterly astonishing.
He said: “The doctor at noon told me that my mother was dead and was not at the facility. Another one saw me and he gave her oxygen, they intubated her and took her to an room where she is under observation. Little by little I am grasping what has happened. Now I only pray for my mother’s health to improve. I want her alive and by my side.”
The health ministry of Ecuador will investigate the incident to uncover the reasons behind the erroneous declaration of a woman as dead, despite her being alive.
After experiencing cardiac arrest, Bella’s resuscitation attempts yielded no response, leading the ministry to declare her deceased. The attending doctor subsequently confirmed her passing.
Gilbert intends to complain to the local prosecutor’s office, alleging the hospital’s negligence.
