The model with Down syndrome, Sofia Jirau, looks like she has shaken up the fashion industry world. Many girls with Down syndrome have prevailed in their life, despite their disabilities.
In February 2020, Victoria’s Secret announced its campaign, Love Cloud, which was conceived to be more inclusive in terms of participation. The campaign brought together models from different spheres of life, such as a fitness coach, a woman in a wheelchair, or a girl with Down syndrome, like Sofia.
Sofia Jirau is a gorgeous girl who was cast for their campaign. She is very keen on the fashion industry, and her dream came true! This is an inspirational story that everyone needs to read for them to remember that nothing is impossible.
Sofia has always loved the fashion world.
Sofia is a girl with Down syndrome from Puerto Rico. Since an early age, she dreamt of being part of the fashion world.
In February 2020, a fashion designer, Marisa Santiago, invited her to walk at New York Fashion Week, an event that was the start of the model’s journey.
“Yesterday, I achieved a dream. I was born for this, and I want to show the world that I have everything a model needs to shine,” wrote Sofia in an Instagram post.
The model is the first one with Down syndrome casting for Victoria’s Secret
Being part of the new campaign of Victoria’s Secret was a life goal for Sofia. She was so excited and emotional.
“One day I dreamed about it, I worked to get there, and today it’s a dream come true. I can finally tell you my big secret. I am the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down syndrome! Thank you all for always supporting me in my endeavors. This is just the beginning!” wrote Sofia.
Sofia also has her own brand.
She has an accessories brand, which includes notebooks, bags, mugs, phone cases, etc. All of them are designed by Sofia. Her brand’s name is Alavett, which, when pronounced, says “I love it”.
Besides being a model, she also promotes the beauty of inclusivity.
Sofia keeps promoting the beauty of inclusivity and wants to inspire people through her campaigns. Sin Limites is one of her campaigns that raises awareness about people with Down syndrome, according to CNBC.
Sofia Jirau believes that people with Down syndrome can model and work hard.
What is your thought on brands that are more inclusive when it comes to people with disabilities? Did Sofia’s story inspire you? What is your dream? Tell us in the comments.
I’m moved that she’s able to look beyond what society has deemed disfunctional disability. It gives me hope that people will be able to look at me as a valuable member of society. I have Multiple Sclerosis and life has not been easy being a single father raising my daughter’s and showing them that I’m not useless and I have value. Showing them that life gives you lemons and lemonade is good. Thank you and God bless your tender heart. Keep that beautiful smile. You are a strong beautiful young woman. You make many proud but none more than your parents. You are giving hope to those that need it just by sharing your story.
I second the Bravo. Wonderful statement you wrote for the beautiful young model and for you as well. It is time to recognize everybody for their beauty whether it is inside or outside beauty.
Bravo!!!!!
God gave you gifts and you are using them to the best of your know how. Keep flying like an eagle pretty lady. God bless and keep showering you with favours.
My grandson has Down Syndrome. He has been called “retarded”, “a mongoloid”, “should have been aborted”. These comments have broken my heart. He is beautiful, happy, and brings joy to everyone that comes in contact with him. I hope he has the advantages that Sophia has had. My daughter doesn’t see anything wrong with him, and neither do we. He has the most beautiful blue/hazel eyes, the biggest smile, and that giggle, oh that giggle makes my heart smile. To those of you who don’t have the pleasure of knowing and loving a child with a disability, ( haaa, sorry but I don’t see it,) I just wish they could meet him, and see him shine. God Bless you Sofia, and thank you for sharing your success!!
It’s a good thing her parents weren’t Icelandic. She would have been aborted otherwise. They don’t like Down Syndrome people in Iceland.
I think she is beautiful. And I glade that Victoria’s Secret has done this I think it is ashame that they talk so much about her haveing Down syndrome. Like she deserves what she worked for with or with out Down syndrome.
I think it is great that she has been able to achieve success. The snarky, and attempted “humorous” posts need to go back under a rock where they belong.
Such an inspiration she’s really beautiful soul pride of her you go girl ❤️
She’s beautiful regardless, and it inspires me that anyone can anything they put there minds too it, and I REALLY THINK SHE’S REALLY BEAUTIFUL AND THAT WAS HER GOAL WHEN SHE WAS YOUNGER AND SHE’S ACHIEVING IT, AS DOWN SYNDROME OR NOT, you go go, you got this,🙏🏽💞👸🏼🧚♀️👣👣👣👣
She is beautiful and is a star now! She has changed the way people look at Down Syndrome people and she’s a record broker! She is awesome you go you beautiful young lady. Good luck in your ongoing career sweetie 😘 💕
She’s an amazing young woman and deserves what she desires. She’s a Gorgeous you g wo.an and an inspiring others. God Bless 🙌🙏❤ her !!
I think that what Victoria’s Secret has done is awesome. ALL deserve the chance to shine and shine she does. So elegant and beautiful, I applaud her determination and strength.
Well played, progressive movement…..well fk’n played.
Her Joy is REAL?
CANT HIDE JOY?
What a cutie! I just hope that she doesn’t get taken advantage of.
That’s a thought I had. Hopefully her parents have her best interest at heart.
My thoughts too, people with Downs tend to very innocent and trusting , but I’m sure she’s in good hands. ❤️
Bride of corky got a temporary job. Good for her.
Asshole
Yes, but she has a very mild version of the syndrome, which means she doesn’t really look like she has it. Most people with Downs Syndrome are physically and mentally more disabled, and this just gives false hope to them.
No it doesn’t. How would you know how they feel. You’re a hater and very sad you feel you have to discredit her. Get a life and don’t make your issues others.
I disagree ppl with down syndrome are gorgeous and live fulfilled lives how disappointingly dull of you to suggest others wise. And like with any group they are likely to enjoy representation. If you cannot see how beautiful ppl with down syndrome are on a regular basis it is bcos you are a bigoted not bcos they don’t exist.
Are ya winning son lmao
