At a memorial service held Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, delivered an emotional message of forgiveness toward her husband’s alleged killer.

“That man, that young man … I forgive him,” she said through tears, drawing a standing ovation from those gathered to honor Kirk’s life. “I forgive him because it was what Christ did and is what Charlie would do. The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know from the gospel is love and always love. Love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us.”

Her remarks came days after prosecutors formally charged 22-year-old Tyler Robinson with murder. According to officials, Robinson confessed in a text to his roommate that he shot Kirk, writing, “I had enough of his hatred.”

Erika Kirk, 36, and mother of two young children, also recalled the devastating moment she saw her husband’s body at a Utah hospital, just hours after he was fatally shot in the neck during a debate with college students at Utah Valley University.
