Greenland’s Leader Fires Back with a 3-Word Rebuttal to Donald Trump

Greenland’s Prime Minister, Múte B. Egede, has had enough and recently delivered a firm three-word response to the former U.S. president.

Greenland Sees Its Largest Protest in History

Over the weekend, massive demonstrations erupted across Greenland in response to Trump’s comments about U.S. control of the island. Thousands of people gathered in the capital, Nuuk, in what is being called the largest protest in the nation’s history.

Given that Nuuk’s population is just 19,000 and Greenland’s total population is around 57,000, the turnout represented a significant portion of the country.

“I’m overwhelmed by the incredible number of people who joined the protest. I’ve never seen such a large demonstration before,” said protest organizer Orla Joelsen, speaking to the local newspaper Sermitsiaq.

The protesters sent a clear message with chants of “Enough is enough!” and “Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders.” The movement also spread to Sisimiut, the country’s second-largest city, where demonstrators held banners reading “Yankee go home” and “We’re not for sale.”

“He Hasn’t Shown Good Behavior”

Criticism of Trump was widespread during the protests.

“He hasn’t shown good behavior. He only uses the media to his advantage. After his visit, Donald Trump Jr. claimed that Greenlanders love the U.S., but we want to show that not all of us feel that way,” said one protester. “I hope that, as a people, we can demonstrate our identity and unity without political affiliations.”

Acting Prime Minister Múte B. Egede, who spearheaded the initiative to unite Greenland’s political leaders against the U.S. proposition, issued a direct statement to Trump.

“Greenland is ours. We are not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom,” Egede declared.

A Unified Greenland

Egede, who took part in the weekend demonstrations, emphasized the importance of national unity.

“It is incredibly moving to see so many people standing together. It is completely unacceptable for a foreign leader to attempt to pressure our nation. Unity is our strength,” he stated.

Jens-Frederik Nielsen, leader of the liberal party Demokraatit—which unexpectedly became Greenland’s largest political party in recent elections—stood alongside Egede at the demonstration.

“It’s truly inspiring, and I feel proud. As Múte said, this unity gives us immense strength. We may have different opinions on various issues, but on this matter, we are all standing together,” Nielsen said.

The situation continues to spark debate, but one thing is clear: Greenland’s people are standing firm in their fight for sovereignty.
