Instagram has announced the discontinuation of its Content Notes feature for feed posts and Reels due to low user adoption. Introduced in July 2024, this feature allowed users to add temporary notes to their posts and Reels, visible for three days to selected followers.
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, stated that the feature “didn’t end up seeing a lot of adoption,” leading to the decision to remove it. This move is part of Instagram’s broader initiative to streamline its interface and eliminate underutilized tools. However, the Notes feature will remain available in direct messages (DMs), where it has been more popular, especially among younger users.
In addition to removing Content Notes, Instagram is introducing a new option to fast-forward Reels. Users can now watch Reels at 2x speed by pressing and holding either side of the screen, a feature aimed at enhancing user experience for longer videos.
These changes reflect Instagram’s ongoing efforts to refine its platform by focusing on features that resonate with users and discontinuing those that do not.
