YouTuber Scott Luu noticed a “huge, huge, huge increase” in one particular bodily function after completing his 30-day water challenge.
Every January, many people take on new challenges, make resolutions, and try to adopt healthier habits. For some, this involves replacing sugary drinks or alcohol with something simple and beneficial: water.
Scott Luu’s story might offer inspiration for anyone looking to improve health and productivity. His personal experiment provided some revealing insights into the effects of increased water intake.
Back in 2020, Luu set out to see if drinking more water over a month would noticeably impact his energy levels and productivity. His goal was to determine whether upping his water intake could genuinely make a difference in daily life.

As part of the experiment, Luu committed to tripling his usual water consumption for 30 days. He documented the entire journey meticulously and shared it in a YouTube video for his followers.
Before starting the challenge, Luu admitted he rarely drank much water. One of the first changes he noticed was an overwhelming need to use the bathroom more frequently. He humorously reported a “huge, huge, huge increase in peeing”. Instead of his usual six trips to the restroom each day, he found himself going 12 to 13 times during the challenge.
Despite the extra bathroom visits, Luu observed several positive effects from drinking more water. One major change was how much clearer he felt in the mornings, even after late nights editing videos. He said: “Now that I started this water challenge, I chug half a liter of water in the morning and it’s like drinking clarity.”
Describing another noticeable shift, he added: “I can feel an immediate difference in energy, and it’s a bit freaky.”
Still, Luu admitted: “99 percent sure that’s just my mind reacting to the stimulus of drinking a lot of water because my body can’t really access that energy.”
One unexpected benefit was needing fewer naps. He noted improvements in his daily routine, saying: “Before the experiment, I took one daily 20-minute nap in the afternoon. During the experiment, it turned into six [days] out of the 30. Energy levels: a definite increase.”

Interestingly, as the month progressed, Luu noticed the instant energy boost he had felt initially began to fade. He attributed this to his body adjusting to the increased water intake over time.
Reflecting on the experiment, he was quick to stress that water isn’t a magical fix-all. While it offered clear benefits, results depended on how people used the added energy and focus.
He explained: “If you don’t have your st together, the water would just give you more energy to keep on doing unproductive tasks.”** He added: “However, if you have intention and focus drinking more water will help boost clarity and energy, increase focus stamina, make you nap less, and cause you to pee a lot.”
Since its upload in April 2020, Luu’s video has reached over 201,000 views and received hundreds of comments from viewers, many inspired by his experiment.
