Carmen Andrade, one of the well-known conjoined twins, married her husband nearly a year ago. Since then, she and her sister have been tackling the personal questions people won’t stop asking.
Carmen and Lupita Andrade, both 25, were born in Mexico and later moved to Connecticut, US, where they were raised. Their connection goes far beyond sisterhood — they are physically joined at the torso and share multiple organs, including a pelvis, reproductive system, liver, and bloodstream. Despite these shared systems, each has her own heart and stomach, making their medical condition both rare and complicated.
Each twin controls one leg — Carmen moves the right while Lupita handles the left. Their lives have always demanded teamwork and constant coordination. In 2020, Carmen met Daniel McCormack on the dating app Hinge. After building a connection, they eloped in a small, private ceremony in Connecticut in October of last year. Today, they live there as a married couple. Carmen has said the most important factor in making their life work, especially regarding Lupita’s boundaries, is consistent and honest communication.
“I don’t know how else to put it,” she told People in a recent interview. She explained that if Lupita is ever uncomfortable, whether physically or emotionally, “we just respect that.”
Lupita, who identifies as asexual, agrees that clarity keeps everything simple. “I have headphones and a phone,” she said. “I don’t care.”
But outsiders often show far less respect. According to Daniel, strangers frequently cross the line with invasive questions.
“People are obsessed with sex, you know?” Daniel said. “And it is just like, frankly, it’s none of your f–king business.”
Carmen echoed that frustration, adding, “I don’t understand why people need to know about my private parts in order (to) humanize us.”
Lupita has also expressed irritation over people asking if she will ever develop romantic feelings for Daniel, a question she finds inappropriate.
“I love him as a brother,” she said firmly. “That’s about it.”
The couple has also made it clear they don’t plan on having children. Daniel put it plainly: “No kids, never plan on it,” adding that he prefers the idea of being an uncle who can enjoy kids and then “give them back.”
Carmen has been candid about her health on her YouTube channel, revealing that she cannot get pregnant because of endometriosis and being on a hormone blocker. She explained, “I never saw myself being a parent.”
In the past, Carmen has also spoken about being fetishized online. She said what made Daniel different was that he didn’t fixate on her condition, which instantly made her feel more comfortable.
“He didn’t lead with a question about my condition,” Carmen remembered. “I have social anxiety, and I’ve ended up cancelling dates at the last minute, but I felt calm on the way there.”
The twins have long outlived the three-day life expectancy doctors predicted at birth. Today, they’ve built a strong following online, with more than 257,000 YouTube subscribers. Their channel continues to grow, featuring a variety of content, including comedy sketches written by Lupita.
