Trump’s Impeachment: New Poll Reveals Strong Support for It

Donald Trump’s impeachment remains a heated topic as a new poll reveals that a surprising number of voters want him impeached again. Nearly half of likely voters in competitive districts say they strongly support removing him from office, showing just how divisive and controversial his presidency continues to be.

Donald Trump is one of only three presidents in U.S. history to be impeached by the House of Representatives. He also holds the unique record of being the first president ever impeached twice. The allegations against him included abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

His first impeachment took place in December 2019. It was linked to a phone call with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During that conversation, Trump allegedly tied military aid to an investigation into his political rival, Joe Biden. The case then moved to the Senate, where he was acquitted in February 2020 after a formal trial.

Trump’s second impeachment followed the violent January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Lawmakers in the House accused him of inciting an insurrection. Just like the first trial, the Senate acquitted him again in February 2021.

Fresh polling data suggests that many voters would support another impeachment attempt. According to a Lake Research Partners survey commissioned by Free Speech For People, 46 percent of likely 2026 voters in competitive congressional districts said they would back impeachment. Out of that group, 45 percent stated theystrongly supportit.

In addition, 56 percent of respondents said they disapprove of Trump’s job performance as president. The polling firm noted that it is remarkable and possibly unprecedented for such a high number of voters in swing districts to support impeachment so early in a president’s term.

Constitutional lawyers behind theImpeach Trump Againcampaign have listed 25 separate alleged grounds for impeachment. These include accusations of abuse of power, threats against constitutional rights, and undermining key institutions. A few of the most notable allegations are summarized below.

Over the summer, Trump ordered federal intervention in Washington, D.C. National Guard units were sent into the streets to target crime and remove homeless encampments.

Shortly afterward, he shifted his focus to Chicago, hinting that the city would soonfind outwhy he had renamed the Department of Defense to the Department of War. These remarks sparked immediate backlash. Trump later clarified by saying,We’re not going to war. We’re going to clean up our cities.”

Critics argue that Trump has weakened key nonpartisan federal agencies, including the Department of Justice and the FBI. Instead of protecting independence, these institutions were allegedly turned into tools to serve his personal agenda and punish opponents.

Federal prosecutor Erik Siebert resigned after heavy pressure from Trump. The president reportedly said he wanted Siebert gone because he refused to file cases against Trump’s political rivals, including New York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director James Comey.

After Siebert’s resignation, Trump appointed his former defense attorney, Lindsey Halligan, who had no prior experience in such a role, as his replacement. Trump also urged Attorney General Pam Bondi to pursue prosecutions against James, Comey, and Representative Adam Schiff.

Critics described these actions as acts of revenge. Trump’s history with Comey, who oversaw the investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, added fuel to the accusations. At the same time, Letitia James faced unproven allegations of mortgage fraud, despite her earlier success in bringing a civil fraud case against Trump.

The campaigners claim Trump has engaged in continuous attacks on the First Amendment. One example cited is his attempt to censor Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show by threatening to sue ABC affiliates airing the program.

The dispute began after Kimmel commented on the assassination of Charlie Kirk and the reactions from conservatives, including Trump. This led to the show being suspended for a week. When the program returned, Trump hinted that he wouldtestABC, referencing an earlier defamation settlement he claimed to have won against the network.

Since returning to the office, Trump has adopted an aggressive stance on immigration. His administration revoked the 1798 Alien Enemies Act and used it to justify mass deportations without standard legal processes. Some of these deportations included transfers to El Salvador’s so-calledmega jail.”

The administration also attempted to deport unaccompanied refugee children from shelters and foster homes. A federal judge stepped in and blocked this order after widespread criticism.

Increased ICE raids have sparked protests across multiple U.S. cities. Attorneys and human rights groups have raised concerns about a detention site in Florida nicknamedAlligator Alcatraz, due to its dangerous surrounding waters filled with alligators and pythons.

Trump has also pledged to carry out the largest deportation operation in U.S. history. His plan includes an estimated $170 billion in funding and a recruitment effort that critics fear could turn into a private army under his control.

Courtney Hostetler, Legal Director at Free Speech For People, stated that Trump is actively dismantling public institutions and undermining constitutional protections. She argued that his assault on the Constitution and the rule of law is deliberate and impeachable, stressing that Congress cannot simply stand by.

John Bonifaz, President and Co-Founder of the same organization, echoed this view. He said Trump’s actions create an existential moment for the nation and democracy itself. According to him, the choice is clear: either the United States upholds the Constitution, or it does not.

Bonifaz insisted that Trump has already engaged in multiple abuses of power and that elected officials in Congress must honor their oath to protect the Constitution by moving forward with impeachment proceedings.
