Two individuals, Oluwadamilola Bamigboye and Rekeya Frazier, were taken into custody in Minnesota in December 2025 following a tense encounter with federal authorities.
According to investigators, agents from Homeland Security Investigations attempted to detain Bamigboye, a Nigerian citizen suspected of remaining in the United States after his student visa had expired. Authorities allege that during the attempted arrest, Bamigboye resisted and urged Frazier, who was behind the wheel, to drive away from the scene.
During the altercation, one federal agent reportedly became caught inside the moving vehicle. Fearing he was being abducted, the agent allegedly drew his firearm and repeatedly ordered Frazier to stop the car. Meanwhile, Bamigboye contacted emergency services from the back seat, claiming that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were inside his vehicle.
Prosecutors charged both suspects with assaulting, resisting, or obstructing a federal officer. Bamigboye has argued that his reaction stemmed from post-traumatic stress disorder linked to a previous kidnapping experience in Nigeria and also claimed the agents failed to clearly identify themselves during the operation.
The pair have pleaded not guilty and were released from pretrial detention toward the end of December 2025 as they await further court proceedings.
