The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) has announced that Luke Nichols — creator of Outdoor Boys — is among fourteen men called to the Young Men General Advisory Council.
Several media sources covered the announcement, noting that Nichols and the other appointees began serving on December 1, 2025.
The Young Men General Advisory Council works alongside the Young Men General Presidency — currently led by Timothy L. Farnes with counselors David J. Wunderli and Sean R. Dixon — to counsel global and local church leaders, helping guide spiritual development, leadership training, and mentorship for teenage boys across the Church.
Luke Nichols: From Wilderness to Church Leadership
Nichols earned a bachelor’s degree in political science at Brigham Young University (BYU) and later a law degree from George Mason University. Before launching Outdoor Boys, he practiced criminal defense law in Virginia.
His YouTube channel — celebrated for family-friendly wilderness adventures with his sons — garnered over 18 million subscribers before he stepped away in May 2025, citing the intense public attention and a desire for privacy for his family.
By joining the Council, Nichols pivots from online content creation to a formal role in youth mentorship and church service — a move that, to many, reaffirms the family and faith values visible in his earlier work.
