Parents sue IVF clinic after mother delivers someone else’s baby

Tiffany Score and Steven Mills have filed a lawsuit against IVF Life, Inc., which operates as the Fertility Center of Orlando, after discovering that the baby born through in vitro fertilization (IVF) is not genetically related to either parent.

The couple turned to the clinic in Orlando, Florida, about five years ago seeking fertility treatment and had an embryo implanted in April 2025. They welcomed their daughter later that year but became alarmed when the child displayed physical traits that did not match the parents’ racial background, raising concerns that something was wrong. Genetic testing subsequently confirmed the baby has no biological relationship to either Score or Mills.

According to court filings, the couple stored three viable embryos at the clinic in 2020, and they now allege an embryo mix‑up occurred, resulting in another patient’s embryo being implanted in Score. They filed the lawsuit on January 22 after multiple attempts to contact the clinic went unanswered.

Despite the mix‑up, Score and Mills say they have formed a deep emotional bond with the child and are raising her as their own. However, their legal complaint highlights the moral and legal obligation they feel to locate and notify the baby’s biological parents should they come forward.

In related developments, the couple also fears that one of their own embryos may have been implanted in another patient and is concerned another family could be raising their biological child. They are seeking court orders to compel the clinic to provide information, conduct genetic testing for other families, and disclose what happened to their embryos.

An emergency court hearing has been held in Orange County, and the clinic has reportedly indicated some cooperation, though the parents say they have yet to receive substantive answers.
