But there’s one habit that’s far harder to justify: adult content consumption.
Thankfully, P*rnhub doesn’t provide users with personalized viewing stats. But it does reveal broader trends that highlight what captured the public’s attention over the year.
On Tuesday, the platform shared its year-end data.
Offering insights that ranged from intriguing to unexpected. Experts pointed out a growing interest in “less complicated” kinks, signaling shifting preferences.
The top global search term for 2024 was “hentai,” a genre of Japanese anime featuring explicit characters and storylines, according to the New York Post. Hentai claimed the top spot in the U.S. for the first time and was also the most-searched term in Brazil and Ukraine. It surpassed other perennial favorites such as “MILF,” “lesbian,” and “anal.”
“MILF,” a longstanding favorite, retained its popularity in countries like the UK, Canada, and Spain. However, newer trends emerged, highlighting evolving interests. For instance, searches for “tradwives” soared by 72% globally, reflecting curiosity about traditional domestic roles.
A “tradwife,” short for “traditional wife,” refers to a woman who prioritizes homemaking and often embraces a submissive role within marriage. The trend gained traction on TikTok, promoting a lifestyle centered on cooking, cleaning, and child-rearing.
Similarly, searches for “demure” content surged by 133%, likely influenced by another viral TikTok encouraging modesty and mindfulness. Related terms like “modesty” and “modest MILF” also saw notable growth, increasing by 77% and 45%, respectively.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, the brash and explicit phrase “hawk tuah” experienced a spike in searches. The term, popularized by Hailey Welch during a street interview earlier this year, has since become her signature catchphrase, propelling her into internet stardom.
The report also spotlighted the most-searched adult performers of the year. Australian star Angela White topped the global list, followed by Abella Danger and Violet Myers.
Interestingly, gay adult content saw a sharp rise in popularity among female viewers. Searches for actor Dom King by women were 468% higher than by men, with Alex Mecum and Diego Sans also gaining significant attention from female audiences.
From traditional to unconventional, the trends reveal an evolving landscape in adult entertainment, influenced by social media, viral moments, and shifting societal norms.
