She has been married twice. Reba is a proud mother of her son, Shelby.
In 2022, Reba suffered a devastating loss. This happened when her beloved mother, Jacqueline, passed away from cancer.
The two shared a close and loving bond. This made the loss especially difficult.
Reflecting on her mother’s life, Reba shared on social media.
“The cancer might think it won the battle. But we’re giving God all the credit for choosing the time for her to go home to Him.”
Jacqueline had once dreamed of becoming a singer herself, but when that dream didn’t materialize, she instead nurtured her daughter’s talent. Reba expressed gratitude for her mother’s unwavering love and support, saying, “Though we will all miss her, we have so many amazing memories.”
Sadly, this wasn’t the first time Reba faced significant heartbreak. On March 16, 1991, tragedy struck when seven members of her band, along with her tour manager, died in a plane crash. The band had been in San Diego for a concert and was en route to Fort Wayne, Indiana, for their next performance. Reba and her then-husband had decided to remain in San Diego for the night and take a separate flight, a decision that ultimately saved their lives.
Just moments after takeoff, the band’s plane crashed into Otay Mountain, killing everyone onboard. In a 2012 interview with Oprah, Reba recounted the harrowing details of that night.
Her manager, Narvel Blackstock, broke the news of the plane crash to her in the early hours of the morning.
Even more than 30 years later, Reba continues to honor the memory of her lost band members.
Ensuring their legacy lives on. Through her strength and resilience, she has shown the world the depth of her character. Both as an artist and as a person.
