In a tense and unexpected moment captured on video, French First Lady Brigitte Macron appeared to shove her husband, President Emmanuel Macron, in the face—followed by a cutting four-word remark, according to a professional lip reader.

The incident unfolded Sunday evening as the French President disembarked from his plane upon arrival in Hanoi, Vietnam. Footage shows 72-year-old Brigitte placing both hands on her husband’s face and firmly pushing him, just seconds after the aircraft door opened.

President Macron later downplayed the moment as a “squabble,” but lip-reading analysis tells a different story.

“As the aircraft door opens, Macron turns toward Brigitte. She unexpectedly pushes him in the face,” the lip reader told The Express.

Noticing the cameras, Macron reportedly says a casual “Hi” and raises his hand. He then steps closer to Brigitte, tries to compose himself, and crosses to the other side of the stairs. Moments later, he signals to her with a quiet, “Let’s go.”

Trying to maintain a presidential image, he thanks the pilot and waves to the press.

But the tension didn’t end there.

“At the top of the stairs, the frost returns,” the lip reader continued. “Macron offers his arm, but Brigitte ignores it, opting to hold onto the railing instead. As she passes him, she appears to mutter, ‘Dégage, espèce de loser’ — which translates to, ‘Stay away, you loser.’”

In response, Macron is said to have quietly pleaded, “Essayons, s’il te plaît” (“Let’s try, please?”), to which Brigitte curtly replied, “Non.”

Her final refusal left the president visibly defeated, ending with the phrase lip-read as “Je vois” — or in English, “I see.”
