South African TikTok star Beandri Booysen has passed away at the age of 19 after a courageous battle with progeria, a rare genetic disorder that accelerates aging.
Her mother, Bea Booysen, announced the tragic news in a Facebook group dedicated to her daughter, expressing deep sadness and highlighting Beandri’s vibrant personality and infectious laugh.
Beandri was the last known individual in South Africa living with progeria, a condition that causes rapid aging and affects approximately one in 4 million babies worldwide.
Despite weighing only 26 pounds, she underwent successful open-heart surgery several months before her passing and was looking forward to spending the holidays with her parents.
On TikTok, Beandri amassed over 269,200 followers, sharing uplifting videos and lip-sync performances that inspired many.
Her mother noted that Beandri became a symbol of awareness for progeria and other special needs children, using her unique spirit to inspire thousands worldwide.
Progeria, also known as Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome, is characterized by rapid aging, leading to brittle bones, distinctive facial features, and a significantly shortened lifespan, with most affected individuals not surviving past their teenage years.
Beandri defied these odds by reaching 19 years of age, striving to live life to the fullest, attending school, and aiming to inspire and motivate her followers daily.
A memorial service will be held to honor Beandri’s short but impactful life, celebrating her legacy of resilience and inspiration.
