8 Eye Exercises You Can Do If Your Eyes Feel Tired

A set of exercises you can do to help prevent your eyes from feeling tired

Scientists say the seeing process takes up more than 50% of the brain’s functionality. The stress from living a fast life, running to do every task needed for the day, or staying long hours in front of the computer, makes our eyes tired.

Viral Strange has gathered a set of exercises you can do everywhere to help prevent your eyes from feeling tired.

1. Side-to-side eye movement

Do this while standing or sitting upright:

  • Look to the left without moving your head. Focus on an object you can see. Then look to the right and do the same.
  • Do the side-to-side eye movement 5 times, and repeat the exercise 3 times.

2. Up and down eye movement

Do this while standing or sitting upright:

  • Look up and down and focus on what you see.
  • Do the up and down eye movement 5 times in each direction, and repeat the exercise 3 times.

3. Diagonal eye movement

Do this while standing or sitting upright:

  • Look down to the left. Move your eyes diagonally and look up to the right.
  • Then, look down to the right and move your eyes up to the left.
  • Repeat the diagonal eye movement 5 times in each direction, and repeat the exercise 3 times.

4. Circle eye movement

Do this while standing or sitting upright:

  • Roll your eyes slowly in a circle clockwise. Do it 5 times.
  • Then, roll your eyes in a circle counterclockwise. Do it 5 times.
  • Repeat the exercise 3 times.

5. Near and far focus

Do this while standing or sitting upright:

  • The distance between your eyes and your thumb should be about a 10-in. Focus on it for 10-15 seconds.
  • Then, focus on an object 10-20 ft from you. Do it for 10-15 seconds.
  • Then, focus on another object, but far from you. Do it for 10-15 seconds.

6. Blinking

Do this while standing or sitting upright:

  • Blink 10-15 times per minute.
  • Keep doing it for 2 minutes.

7. Palming

To soothe the optic nerve, we can do the palming exercise:

  • Sit and rest your elbows on a table in a darkened room.
  • Rub your hands to warm them up, then place them over your eyes.
  • Imagine the total darkness and try to breathe deeply. Keep doing this exercise for 5 minutes.

8. The 20/20/20 exercise

The 20/20/20 exercise is the best for people who spend long hours in front of a computer.

  • Take a pause every 20 minutes.
  • Focus on something 20 feet away.
  • Keep staring at it for 20 seconds.
