Famous moms are leading the way in accepting post-pregnancy body changes. While less than a third of women return to their pre-pregnancy fitness level one year after giving birth, it’s not surprising given the incredible act of growing a human for 9 months.
Despite some stars bouncing back quickly, many are now refusing to succumb to pressure and are embracing their post-baby bodies.
Viral Strange will list 8 famous moms that have openly discussed their post-baby body imperfections.
1. Olivia Wilde
At the age of 30, the actress gave birth to her first child in 2014. Almost a year later, she confessed to not having regained her perfect shape, saying, ‘In fact, I’m softer than I’ve ever been.’ She likened her post-baby body to a ‘partially deflated pool toy’ but seemed content with the changes, stating, ‘I believe in a world where mothers are not expected to shed any physical evidence of their child-bearing experience.’
2. Zooey Deschanel
The 42-year-old actress, who has a son and a daughter born in 2015 and 2017, is against pressuring oneself to quickly regain pre-pregnancy shape. She firmly stated, “Haven’t we all seen those pictures of a sexy new mom in a bikini after one month? I will not be that person.” Deschanel normalized post-pregnancy body changes, noting that “All your organs move around” when growing and birthing a human.
3. Anne Hathaway
In 2016 and 2019, the 39-year-old actress gave birth to her two sons. Recently, on Instagram, she shared that she made adjustments to her pre-pregnancy jeans three years after having her second child. Hathaway’s caption to the picture read, “There is no shame in gaining weight during pregnancy (or ever). There is no shame if it takes longer than you think it will to lose the weight.”
4. Drew Barrymore
Actress Drew Barrymore, who has two daughters, candidly discussed her post-baby body. She admitted that “it’s hard to stay positive and love yourself” after having children, describing the feeling as being “like a kangaroo with a giant pouch; everything’s saggy and weird.” Despite this, Barrymore believes that the changes are worth it, stating, “But you think about how beautiful it is that you’re able to make children.”
5. Pink
Following the birth of her daughter in 2011 and her son in 2016, Pink, aged 42, chose not to rush into losing the weight gained during pregnancy. She confessed, “I love to feel fit. I love to feel healthy. I wasn’t in a race.” Pink went on to say, “I was kind to myself because I was impressed with the fact that […] ’I made a human!’”
6. Tia Mowry
The then-39-year-old actress shared a photo of her postpartum body on Instagram seven weeks after delivering her second child. In her caption, she noted that some women don’t have a belly after 7 weeks while others may take longer. She identified with the latter group. Although it took her time to accept her body changes, she stated, “This. Is. Me. And I love me.”
7. Hilary Duff
The actress, who now has three children, reflected on her early experiences of motherhood, saying that “being a new mom was one of the happiest times” of her life. However, she also struggled with her body image. She confessed, “I wasn’t one of those women who just could nurse and lose the weight.” Eventually, her perspective shifted as she recognized that her body had played a vital role in creating a bond between her and her child. She realized that this bond was “far more important” than striving to get in shape immediately.
8. Kristen Bell
The actress, who gave birth to her two kids in 2013 and 2014, confessed that it took her more than a year to lose her baby weight. She acknowledged that the extra skin on her belly serves as a reminder of the extraordinary thing she did. For Bell, appearance, and weight are not a concern as they are part of the journey of motherhood. As she put it, “I am not a woman whose self-worth comes from her dress size.”
