Bruce Willis’ family reveals that the actor has been diagnosed with aphasia, leading him to take a break from his career.

Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, ex-wife Demi Moore, and their daughters took to Instagram, posting a photo of the 67-year-old actor and a detailed update on his health.

They stated: “To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”

Aphasia, as described by the Mayo Clinic, is a communication impairment that affects speaking, writing, and understanding language, both verbal and written.

According to the medical nonprofit, aphasia often arises abruptly following a stroke or head injury.

According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, language disorders can manifest in various types and typically arise suddenly after a stroke or head injury. However, they can also develop gradually due to factors like brain tumors or progressive neurological diseases.

According to the NIDCD, the effect of treatment varies based on factors such as the cause and extent of brain injury, the affected brain area, as well as the individual’s age and health.

According to the National Aphasia Association, this disorder impacts approximately 2 million individuals in the United States, with nearly 180,000 new cases diagnosed annually.

While the family of Bruce Willis didn’t disclose specific details about his condition, they expressed their appreciation for the support received from his fans.

In New York City, Emma Heming, Rumer Willis, Bruce Willis, Tallulah Belle Willis, Demi Moore, and Scout LaRue Willis gather backstage as Rumer shines in her Broadway debut as “Roxie Hart” in “Chicago” at The Ambassador Theater on September 21, 2015.

The family’s message read: “This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.”

As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up,’ and together we plan to do just that,” they added.
