Whoopi Goldberg sparked controversy after suggesting that President Donald Trump should be removed from office under the 25th Amendment, following what she described as an “unhelpful” and chaotic speech at the United Nations General Assembly. Her comments, made during Wednesday’s broadcast of The View, quickly ignited widespread debate across social media.
The outspoken co-host argued that world leaders were “really concerned for” the direction of the United States under Trump’s leadership. “He had a chance to deliver much more than what he did, and they don’t consider him to be serious anymore. I’m worried,” Goldberg told viewers, making her position clear on Trump’s standing with the international community.

Goldberg then escalated her remarks, saying the 25th Amendment should be invoked. The constitutional provision outlines how a president can be removed if deemed unfit or incapable of fulfilling the duties of the office. “Well, they questioned Biden’s competence. If Biden had acted like this I would have said, ‘Yeah take him’ … This was not presidential and this was not helpful,” she added, stressing her belief that Trump’s performance had fallen short of presidential standards.
Several of her fellow panelists agreed. Co-host Sonny Hostin accused Trump of misleading the General Assembly when he claimed to have brought an end to seven global conflicts, arguing the narrative was aimed at securing a Nobel Peace Prize rather than reflecting reality.
Reactions online, however, were swift and harsh. Critics of Goldberg questioned her credibility, with one user writing, “She was curiously silent during the dementia years of 2021 – 2025.” Another blasted her take, posting, “Why do we care what she has to say? Clearly she is unable to put reading and comprehension together in a cohesive way. The 25th amendment has nothing to do with disagreeing with the other party, and she had nothing to say about a mentally incapacitated Biden.”

Trump’s address itself drew attention for its combative tone. He accused the United Nations of hiding behind “empty words” and enabling “an assault on Western countries” through mass migration policies. At one point, he declared, “your countries are going to hell,” before urging leaders to “end the failed experiment of open borders.”
The delivery was marked by technical mishaps. A teleprompter glitch forced Trump to improvise at the start of his speech, prompting him to quip that the staffer responsible was in “big trouble,” a remark that drew laughter in the room. Goldberg, however, insisted that the reaction was mocking, not supportive. Trump later joked about a faulty escalator that had malfunctioned as he and First Lady Melania Trump arrived, telling the crowd, “These are the two things I got from the United Nations: a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter.”
