Eiza Gonzales: I lost roles for being “too pretty”

Eiza Gonzalez revealed her struggles with being labeled “too pretty” for certain acting roles and criticized the over-sexualization of Latinas in Hollywood during her interview for InStyle magazine’s cover story.

Eiza Gonzalez revealed that she had once considered altering her appearance due to being told she was “too attractive” for certain acting roles.

“I struggled a lot with my body, my curves, my appearance. It was really challenging,” Gonzalez expressed.

She also addressed the issue of Latinas being overly sexualized in the film industry, describing it as disappointing and pathetic, noting that it had been the greatest obstacle in her career, unlike her white peers who didn’t face similar challenges.

“For many projects, I was told, ‘She’s too pretty for the role. She’s too hot for the role,'” Gonzalez recounted. “And then I’d think, ‘What about Margot Robbie?’ She’s the most stunning woman I’ve ever seen!”

Gonzalez admitted to grappling with an identity crisis for an extended period, questioning whether to change her appearance to fit Hollywood’s expectations.
