The widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk has said the organisation he founded, Turning Point USA, will work to help elect JD Vance as president in 2028, even though the current US vice-president has not announced a bid.
Erika Kirk made the remarks on Thursday during the opening day of Turning Point’s annual America Fest conference, the group’s largest gathering since her husband was shot dead in September.
“We are going to get my husband’s friend, JD Vance, elected for 48 in the most resounding way possible,” Kirk said, referencing the 48th presidency. Donald Trump is the 47th president.
JD Vance is scheduled to address the conference on Sunday.
Turning Point USA has been widely credited with helping President Donald Trump broaden his base of support, contributing to his victory in the 2024 presidential election.
Her comments, delivered just ahead of the one-year anniversary of Trump taking office, point to early maneuvering over who could succeed him in the 2028 race.
