At just three months old, she had fallen from a sofa onto a steam humidifier, sustaining third-degree burns.

“When I was ridiculed and tormented growing up, I would look at that photograph,” Amanda recalls. “Even though I didn’t know who she was, I felt comforted knowing that someone had once truly cared for me.”
Determined to find the nurse who had shown her such kindness, Amanda held onto hope for decades. After 20 years of fruitless searching, she turned to social media for one final attempt. She shared the photograph on Facebook, writing:
“I want to know who she is and, if possible, thank her in person. Please share this—who knows where it might reach?”
A Heartwarming Discovery
Amanda’s post went viral, and the very next day, she received the message she had been waiting for. A former nurse, Angela Leary, recognized the woman in the photo as Susan Berger, who had been just 21 years old and fresh out of college when the photo was taken.
Susan, who still remembered Amanda vividly, was deeply moved. “I remember her,” Susan said. “She was so calm and composed, even after what she had been through. Most babies cry or sleep after surgery, but she was just so serene. It was incredible.”
The reunion, 38 years in the making, was emotional for both women. Amanda finally met the nurse who had been her “guardian angel” during one of the hardest times in her life.
Susan was equally touched by the experience. “I don’t know how many nurses are lucky enough to have someone remember them after so many years,” she said. “I feel honored to represent all the nurses who cared for Amanda throughout her journey.”
