WILMINGTON, Del. — May 18, 2025 — Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones, according to a statement released by his personal office on Sunday.

The 82-year-old former president was evaluated last week after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. Physicians identified a new prostate nodule, which led to further testing. On Friday, Biden was officially diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5), indicating a highly aggressive tumor with advanced progression.

“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management,” the statement added.

Biden and his family are currently reviewing treatment options with his medical team. He is spending the weekend at his home in Wilmington, Delaware, a source familiar with the matter confirmed. It remains unclear at this time where he will undergo treatment.

Health and age have long been central concerns surrounding Biden, who was the oldest sitting president in U.S. history during his term in office. Scrutiny intensified following his shaky performance during a presidential debate against Donald Trump in June of last year.

More details regarding Biden’s treatment plan and prognosis are expected in the coming days.
