Jyoti Amge is globally known as the shortest woman. However, that only adds to her individuality. From a young age, she has striven towards a career in acting and achieved her goals, despite facing challenges and biases.
Jyoti’s childhood
Jyoti Kisanji Amge was born on December 16, 1993, in Maharashtra, India. According to her mother, Ranjana, Jyoti was of normal size at birth and in her early childhood years. However, her growth ceased when she turned 5 and has remained unchanged since.
Her family’s unconditional support has helped her view her height as a non-issue. They often carry her around to give her a different perspective of the world. Despite the challenges she faced in continuing her education, her sister carried her through college, allowing Jyoti to graduate.
Her father shared that in the past, Jyoti struggled with being teased and mocked for her condition. However, her family’s unwavering support and encouragement have been the driving force behind her perseverance and determination. Despite facing challenges, her family has always stood behind her, empowering her to move forward.
The “why” of her stunted growth
“Doctors think the reason behind my height not increasing is a deficiency of growth hormones,” said Jyoti.
Her small stature was diagnosed as a result of achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism that restricts her height growth.
A Guinness World Record star
“She may be the shortest living woman, but Jyoti Amge is one of the biggest personalities we have in the Guinness World Records universe.”
After turning 18 and being recognized as the world’s shortest-living woman, Jyoti’s self-esteem was boosted. She has expressed that achieving this record has positively impacted her: “I feel well-liked, special, and important.”
The Guinness World Records claimed: “Measured by a doctor, she was just 61.95 cm (2 ft) tall, confirming her as the shortest living teenager (female). Remarkably, at just 5.4 kg, she weighed only 4 kg more than her birth weight.”
Her accessories, cutlery, and plates must all be custom-made to fit her. Despite these challenges, she strives to make the most of every situation and embrace her unique stature.
In 2012, Jyoti Amge had a memorable moment alongside the World’s Tallest Man, Sultan Kosen, for the 57th edition of the Guinness World Records.
“When I met the world’s tallest man, I was a little shocked. I was thinking how can be someone so tall, and he was astonished to see me as well, but we are now very good friends,” she said in an interview.
Amge’s success as an actress
Jyoti has achieved notoriety not only as an actress and influencer in India but also globally as she has travelled and connected with diverse individuals. She proudly serves as a Guinness World Records ambassador and has finally realized her long-standing dream of pursuing a career in acting.
She has made appearances in TV shows in India and abroad and plans to further her acting career. She even starred in the hit series “American Horror Story: Freak Show.”
“People like me might be small in stature, but they can also act. Regular people should not underestimate people who are small,” said Jyoti.
Jyoti’s recognition by the Guinness World Records (GWR) played a crucial role in launching her to international success, but she is not content to rest on her laurels. She strives towards realizing her aspirations and proving those who doubt her abilities wrong.
In addition to her acting aspirations, she aspires to inspire those who lack self-confidence. She wants to be a role model and encourage others to not let their unique qualities hold them back from pursuing their life goals.
She said: “To people like me: if you keep trying, you will achieve all of your dreams.”
