Saudi Prince’s $280 Million Superyacht Is So Luxurious It Includes Multiple Hospitals Onboard

When most people imagine a luxury yacht, they think of infinity pools, lavish suites, and perhaps a helipad. But one Saudi royal took the concept of luxury far beyond that.

The result was Al Salamah, a colossal superyacht that functions less like a pleasure vessel and more like a floating city.

Commissioned by Saudi Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz and launched in 1999, the vessel was designed to be almost entirely self-sufficient at sea. Every detail was created with the goal of allowing its owners and guests to live comfortably for extended periods without relying on facilities on land.

That vision produced one of the most extraordinary private yachts ever built.

Stretching 139 meters (456 feet) in length, Al Salamah houses an impressive collection of amenities rarely found even in some luxury resorts. Alongside expansive living quarters, the yacht features a gym, spa facilities, beauty salons, a private cinema, a library, and a helipad.

Perhaps the most remarkable feature, however, is its onboard medical infrastructure.

The yacht reportedly includes multiple medical facilities, allowing healthcare services to be provided without ever leaving the vessel. While large cruise ships commonly carry medical centers due to the number of passengers they accommodate, it remains exceptionally rare for a privately owned yacht to feature hospital-level facilities.

Al Salamah is not entirely alone in this category. Another famous Saudi-owned yacht, the luxury vessel Lady Moura, was also equipped with its own hospital, highlighting the extraordinary standards often associated with some of the world’s most exclusive yachts.

Despite its age, Al Salamah remains one of the most valuable yachts on the water. The vessel briefly appeared on the market in 2013 with a reported asking price of around $280 million. However, it ultimately remained in royal ownership and is still associated with the Saudi royal family.

What surprises many people is that, despite its enormous size, Al Salamah is not among the ten largest yachts in the world.

At 139 meters, it currently ranks outside the global top ten and is generally considered one of the largest yachts ever built without reaching the very highest tier. It is slightly larger than Solaris, the yacht linked to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, while being somewhat smaller than Scheherazade.

The competition at the top of the ranking is fierce. Several of the world’s largest yachts are owned by members of the Al Nahyan family of the United Arab Emirates.

Among them is Azzam, widely recognized as the largest motor yacht on Earth. Other notable vessels linked to the family include Blue, A+, and Opera.

Meanwhile, billionaire Jeff Bezos owns the famous Koru, although it is often excluded from rankings of the largest yachts because it is classified as a sailing yacht rather than a motor yacht.

Even among the world’s wealthiest owners, Al Salamah continues to stand out. Not just because of its size or price tag, but because it was designed to operate as a fully functioning floating palace—complete with medical facilities, luxury amenities, and nearly everything needed to remain at sea for extended periods without sacrificing comfort.
