The search for a woman who fell from a Taylor Swift-themed cruise ship in the Bahamas was suspended Wednesday, one day after she went overboard, officials reported.
The U.S. Coast Guard announced Wednesday afternoon that the Royal Bahamas Defence Force had paused its search efforts, awaiting further developments, and no longer required Coast Guard assistance.
The 66-year-old woman, a passenger on Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas, reportedly fell overboard around 9:40 p.m.
Tuesday, about 17 miles from Nassau, according to the Coast Guard. In response, the Coast Guard deployed an HC-144 airplane and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter to assist in the search.
A Royal Caribbean spokesperson stated:
“We are also providing support and assistance to the guest’s family during this difficult time,” the spokesperson said, adding that no additional details would be shared to respect the family’s privacy.
It remains unclear if the woman who went overboard was part of the fan group. Allure of the Seas, is a 1,187-foot-long vessel with 18 decks. The ship can hold over 6,800 guests and began its first voyage in 2010.
