Lakesha Woods Williams, a 29-year-old mother from Texas, found herself in legal trouble after authorities accused her of abandoning her two young children to embark on a week-long cruise, leaving them without adult supervision in their high-rise apartment complex located in Houston.
The incident unfolded when concerned neighbors, troubled by the absence of Williams and the apparent neglect of her children, alerted emergency responders to investigate the situation.
According to reports from the Harris County Constable – Precinct 5, Williams departed for her solo vacation on April 4th, leaving her 8-year-old and 6-year-old children to fend for themselves. She only returned home on the night of April 10th, a period during which her children were left unattended.
Neighbors became increasingly worried as days passed without Williams’ return, prompting them to contact authorities. They had observed Williams leaving the building with luggage on April 4th but noticed her prolonged absence thereafter, prompting concerns for the welfare of her children.
Upon receiving the neighbors’ distress call, deputies conducted a welfare check at Williams’ apartment on April 9th. To their dismay, they discovered the two young children alone in a distressing environment. The apartment was in a state of disarray, littered with garbage and food strewn across the floor, emitting a foul odor of urine. It was evident that the children had been left to fend for themselves in unsanitary conditions, raising serious concerns about their well-being and safety.
Following the discovery, Williams was promptly arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail on charges of child endangerment. Her bail was set at $40,000, and she awaits her court appearance scheduled for Monday.
