On the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landing, a heartwarming moment took place in France. K.T. (Kara Troy) Robbins and Jeannine Pierson, captured by French TV crews, finally reunited after 75 years apart.
In a truly emotional moment, the WWII Vet confessed, “I always loved you. You never got out of my heart.”
After more than 70 years, he revealed a cherished photo of her that he had held onto.
In 1944, during World War II, K.T. Robbins and Jeannine, a young French girl, met in north-east France. Their love blossomed, but their relationship ended abruptly after two months when K.T. was deployed to the eastern front.
After returning to America, K.T. resumed his life and entered into marriage. Nevertheless, Jeannine remained in his thoughts, and he held onto the hope of reuniting with her. This dream became a reality when a French TV crew documenting WWII veterans in America stumbled upon a photo of Jeannine in K.T.’s old albums.
He expressed his desire to return to France and meet her family.
“I probably won’t see her. She’s probably gone now,” he said at the time.
Surprisingly, the French journalists managed to track down Jeannine, who, at the age of 92, was found alive and well. When questioned about her memories of K.T., Jeannine tearfully recollected, “I cried when he departed in the truck; I was deeply saddened. I wish after the war he hadn’t returned to America.”
Jeannine learned English after the war, hoping to communicate better with the WWII Vet if he visited her.
Unfortunately, their meeting was brief yet poignant. As Robbins departed for Normandy, their farewell was filled with heartbreak. “Jeannine, I love you, girl,” the 98-year-old WWII Vet expressed, making a promise to reunite in the days to come.
