Edd Langmead, a 44 year old musician from Oldham, Greater Manchester, said he initially felt healthier than he had in years after using Mounjaro.

His chronic back pain disappeared, he lost around 80 pounds, and for the first time in a long while, he felt comfortable in his own body.

But everything changed when severe stomach pain, which he first brushed off as trapped wind, turned into a life threatening condition that required emergency surgery.

Edd explained that weight had always been something he struggled with. At his heaviest, he weighed 287 pounds and admitted he often comfort ate, especially sugary snacks and treats.

Over time, the extra weight started affecting more than just his confidence. Even simple movements became painful.

He said getting out of bed every morning had become difficult because of ongoing back pain linked to his size. Hoping to finally make a change, he approached his doctor in May 2025 to ask about weight loss medication.

According to Edd, he was told the waiting list for treatment was longer than a year.

Like many people searching for faster results, he decided not to wait.

Instead, he ordered Mounjaro through an online pharmacy.

The medication, which contains tirzepatide, has become increasingly popular among people trying to lose weight quickly. Edd said the changes came fast, and at first, everything seemed positive.

Within months, the weight started falling off.

He eventually dropped from 287 pounds to 201 pounds in less than a year. The transformation also brought relief from the severe back pain that had been affecting his daily life for years.

At one point, he even switched to a cheaper alternative when the price of Mounjaro increased. However, he claims the replacement did not work as effectively, so he later returned to using Mounjaro again.

What made the situation more frightening was that he had not experienced any warning signs in the beginning.

Edd said he felt fine for months.

No nausea. No major stomach issues. No symptoms that made him think something serious could be happening internally.

Then, on March 9, 2026, he suddenly began feeling intense pain in his abdomen.

At first, he assumed it was trapped gas.

Because he had dealt with trapped wind before, the sensation did not immediately alarm him. He tried treating it at home with over the counter medication, expecting the discomfort to pass within a few hours.

Instead, it became worse.

The pain continued building over the next three days until it became unbearable. Edd said he could no longer sit down comfortably or lie in bed without agony shooting through his body.

Eventually, the pain became so severe that he collapsed on the floor.

His partner, who had been preparing for work, saw the condition he was in and immediately called an ambulance.

Paramedics rushed him to the hospital with blue lights flashing.

Doctors quickly ran scans and tests, and the results shocked him.

Edd was diagnosed with gangrenous cholecystitis, a dangerous condition where the gallbladder tissue begins dying because of severe inflammation and infection. The condition can become fatal if treatment is delayed.

By the time doctors discovered it, the infection had already spread beyond his gallbladder.

According to reports, it had reached his stomach and lungs, making the situation even more critical.

He was booked in for emergency surgery on March 13 to have his gallbladder removed before the infection caused even more damage.

Looking back now, Edd believes Mounjaro played a major role in what happened.

Doctors reportedly told him that losing weight too quickly can increase the risk of gallbladder problems, especially gallstones and inflammation. Rapid changes in body weight can place stress on the digestive system, even when the weight loss itself appears successful on the outside.

For Edd, the reality hit hard.

What had started as a hopeful transformation suddenly became something terrifying.

Speaking about the ordeal, he admitted the experience completely changed the way he views weight loss injections and online treatment providers.

He explained: “I’ve struggled with weight all my life. I went to my doctor to get on it and they said the waiting list was more than 12 months.”

“Everyone wants a quick fix, don’t they? I did.”

He said the changes in his body initially felt life changing in the best possible way.

“I’d been suffering with back pain for the past three years. Getting out of bed actually hurt, and within the first two months my back pain had gone.”

That improvement made him believe the medication was helping him reclaim his health.

Which is why the sudden collapse felt even more shocking.

Edd explained that when the pain first started, he genuinely believed it was trapped wind because he had experienced that feeling before.

“I got all these things from over the counter trying to relieve it, but it didn’t do anything,” he said.

“I couldn’t sit or lie down without being in pain and it just kept getting worse and worse.”

As the hours passed, the situation spiraled far beyond anything he thought he could handle at home.

“My partner was meant to be going to work and I was doubled up in pain on the floor and could barely talk, so she rang an ambulance.”

After arriving at the hospital, doctors moved quickly.

The emergency surgery successfully removed his gallbladder, but recovery has been difficult.

Edd spent four days in hospital before being sent home with intravenous antibiotics, which he had to continue using for another 10 days.

Even after the operation, he says he still feels physically broken down by what happened.

“When I came out of the operation, a couple of the surgeons were saying how lucky I was,” he recalled.

“All I could think of was leaving my kids without a dad.”

That fear stayed with him long after the surgery ended.

He explained that the physical impact of the infection and surgery completely changed how he feels day to day.

“I’ve gone from being the healthiest I’ve ever felt since I was a teenager to now, I feel like I’m in my nineties,” he said.

“I’ve got pipes hanging out of me, I can’t walk or move properly, I can’t lie down.”

The emotional side of the experience appears to have affected him just as much as the physical pain.

At one point, Edd admitted he realized how close the situation may have come to turning fatal.

“If I had not gone in or if I had been in a different situation where I couldn’t get to a hospital then I might not be here so that’s the scary thing.”

Since the health scare, Edd has stopped taking the Mounjaro injections completely.

Now, he says he wants others to learn from what happened to him.

Rather than buying Mounjaro or other medication online without proper follow ups, he believes people should go through their doctor and receive regular monitoring while taking weight loss drugs.

He explained that after discovering his condition may have been linked to Mounjaro, he started questioning whether he should have waited for treatment through the NHS instead.

“Once I found out it’d all gone wrong and was related to weight loss, it put doubt in me that maybe I should’ve just waited,” he said.

He also criticized online providers for not emphasizing potential complications strongly enough.

“The online companies don’t show you those risks,” Edd added.

“There is a sadness that it happened like that for me because I’m sure that had I done it differently, it wouldn’t have been that way.”

Now, he says regular blood tests and proper medical supervision are essential for anyone using these medications.

“Make sure you go get regular blood tests,” he warned.

“It’s not worth the risk.”

Meanwhile, pharmaceutical company Lilly, which manufactures Mounjaro, responded by saying patient safety remains its highest priority.

A spokesperson for the company stated that the medication information already warns patients that gallbladder related conditions, including cholecystitis, are a known but uncommon side effect.

According to the company, the side effect may affect up to one in every 100 people taking the medication.

Lilly also encouraged anyone experiencing symptoms while taking the drug to speak with a healthcare professional immediately and ensure they are using genuine medication obtained through proper medical channels.

As medications like Mounjaro continue growing in popularity worldwide, stories like Edd’s are becoming part of a much larger conversation around rapid weight loss treatments, online pharmacies, and the importance of medical supervision.

For Edd, though, the conversation became deeply personal.

What began as an attempt to improve his health almost ended in tragedy.
