The TikToker decided to reveal something she had ‘never publicly told anyone’ before.
Marcella explained that she and her husband were searching for baby names online and decided to use the genealogy site FamilySearch for inspiration. However, their quest for cute names led to an unexpected and startling discovery.
Hill recounted: “Husband’s next to me on his own FamilySearch and he’s like, ‘Oh that’s funny, we have the same grandma and grandpa’s names.'”
Realizing where this was headed, she continued: “I look at this line and it’s all the same as mine. So I think, ‘Oh no no, you’re still logged into my account.'”
After further investigation, they realized the truth: “Then we start looking at it and we realize my grandpa is his grandma’s first cousin.”
To confirm their suspicions, they called their respective grandparents and learned that they actually share the same great-great-grandparents. Marcella noted: “Sure enough, sure do. They lived together when they were growing up as children.”
Marcella concluded: “So I’ve never publicly told anyone but I accidentally married my cousin.”
She joked that attending family reunions has become more convenient since discovering they are third cousins, as they can now attend both sides of the family in one go. The post quickly attracted a lot of attention and comments.
Viewers were stunned by the revelation, with one person commenting: “How didn’t y’all realize this at the wedding?” Another joked: “So in a way your baby is its own 4th cousin.”
