Pets sometimes find themselves in tricky, messy situations, but fortunately, local police are always ready to assist animals in need — even when it involves navigating unpleasant conditions and bad odors.
Recently, a police officer in California exemplified this dedication by crawling into a sewage drain to rescue a stranded puppy.
The Huron Police Department shared the heartwarming story, detailing how three of their officers — Commander Fuentes, Sergeant Paul Lopez, and Officer Gonzalez — came to the aid of a puppy that had fallen into a sewage drain.
Despite the grim situation, one officer covered his legs in plastic bags and bravely entered the sewage drain to free the trapped dog, according to a report from KSEE/KGPE.
Though it was a dirty task, the officers’ efforts paid off. The dog was successfully rescued and is expected to fully recover from the ordeal.
Photos of the rescue reveal the puppy completely coated in black sludge, but after a well-deserved bath, the dog was back to looking like its usual self.
The Huron Police Department praised the officers for their extra efforts in saving the puppy, stating, “We’re proud to have such dedicated officers on our team, always ready to serve – even our four-legged community members. Great job, team!“ the department wrote on Facebook.
Kudos to these officers for braving the sewer to save this pup! It wasn’t a pleasant task, but the happy outcome made it all worthwhile.
