Mom of Rare Down Syndrome Twins Defies Critics

Savannah Combs, a 23-year-old from Middleburg, Florida, was ecstatic to learn she was expecting twins. The surprise was even more special as both twins were diagnosed with Down syndrome. Despite knowing they might face judgment, Savannah and her husband Justin Ackerman viewed their children’s uniqueness as a precious gift.

Savannah documented her pregnancy journey on TikTok, gaining a strong following. She openly shared the challenges and blessings of her situation, and despite advice to terminate her pregnancy, Savannah chose to cherish every moment with her unborn children.

At 29 weeks, Savannah gave birth to Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman on May 12, 2021. Born two months premature, the twins spent weeks in the NICU. Savannah revealed that her daughters are “mono di” twins, meaning they had individual sacs but shared a placenta, making them identical. The combination of identical twins with Down syndrome is extremely rare, with only one in 2 million births.

Savannah emphasizes that her daughters are just like other children, with feelings, a beating heart, and the ability to learn. Although their development may be slower, she is confident they will reach every milestone. She lovingly shares their progress on TikTok, proving that with determination, her girls can achieve anything.

Unfortunately, not all comments have been supportive. Some have criticized Savannah on social media, even suggesting the twins be put up for adoption. Savannah responded with grace, stating on Facebook, “Good thing they weren’t born to you. God knew what He was doing by giving these babies to parents who would love them unconditionally.”
