A first baby at 70, she defied societal limits, inspiring us to conquer challenges and chase dreams. Rajo Devi Lohan’s remarkable journey embodies hope, resilience, and breaking barriers, as she achieved her lifelong desire through unwavering determination, countless medical tests, and courage. Her name symbolizes defying convention, giving birth at 70, a testament that pursuing goals knows no age constraints.
Rajo Devi Lohan defied critics, becoming the oldest first-time mother globally.
At 70, she underwent controversial IVF, giving birth to a daughter. Near-fatal complications followed. Today, at 78, she credits her daughter for resilience and extended life.
Following a period of poor health, the delicate mother holds onto the aspiration of witnessing her daughter’s wedding, providing her with the resolve to battle on. Rajo, residing in the distant village of Hissar, India, alongside husband Ballo, his second wife Umi, and Naveen, shares her thoughts: “The only reason I am still alive despite my illness is Naveen. She is a gift that God has given me, and, until I have married her off, I cannot afford to die. I will marry her off when she turns 15, but until then I simply cannot die.”
Amid concerns about her health, the pregnancy proved worrisome as she faced severe postpartum complications linked to IVF, nearly risking her life.
Rajo has surpassed her attending doctor in years, crediting her enduring purpose—her daughter—for her remarkable longevity.
She said: “When Naveen was born, the doctor had asked me to take absolute bed rest, but I didn’t listen to him and that’s why my health got so bad. I am not used to rest and that is why I could not avoid working even after she was born. For me, work is what I’ve done all my life.”
Yet, Rajo Devi Lohan’s health issues appeared to have vanished completely.
“I feel much better now. The doctor took very good care of me, but, unfortunately, he has since passed away. He spent a lot of money on my medical expenses to help me have my daughter. I appreciate everything he did,” she added.
Rajo openly admits her lifelong dream of motherhood, undeterred by doctors and skeptics, showing her determination. “When I looked around and saw children, my heart was saddened that I could not have one; I desperately wanted to have a child of my own,” she said.
The entire village celebrated her newfound motherhood, with joyful villagers coming from all around to share in the happiness.
Despite her advanced age, the mother remains unconcerned about Naveen’s future.
“She doesn’t need to worry about her future — she has her other mother, Umi, her uncles, relatives, and her father to take care of her. As Naveen is my only daughter, she will inherit all my property, which includes 52,000 square meters of land. Her future will be secured,” she said.
Age poses no barrier to achieving the dream of motherhood. Her bravery in having a baby at 70, and her resolve to serve as a timeless testament to the enduring bliss it can bring, regardless of time elapsed.
