A man, who was courageously willing to share a photo of the terrifying incident that altered his life forever, had been half-chopped by a forklift.
In September 2019, while operating a forklift on a bridge in the United States, Loren Schauers, 21, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall 50 feet to the ground.
His life was substantially changed due to being half-chopped by the four-ton vehicle.
After the incident, the builder underwent hemicorporectomy surgery, a brave choice he made to survive. The surgery involved amputating everything below his waist, resulting in the loss of three limbs.
The labourer has shown courage by sharing pictures of the moment that nearly cost him his life, three years after the incident.
Schauers is not visible underneath the forklift, which is shown overturned at the edge of a steep hill in the pictures.
On Instagram, he wrote: “If you look closely in the second photo, you can see me still pinned under the forklift. The last photo is exactly what type it was I’m sure of.”
Sabia Reiche, now 23 and Schauers’ current wife, was told by doctors that Schauers wouldn’t survive, causing her to say goodbye to him six times.
Despite the odds against him, he survived the incident, but his journey towards recuperation has been arduous.
Schauers stated previously: “I was conscious throughout everything so I watched as the forklift fell on top of me and crushed my body. “Every medical professional I come across is pretty amazed by everything, especially with the story that comes along with my injuries. It wasn’t a hard choice to have half of my body amputated – it was a choice of living or dying. With Sabia assuring me to stay by my side no matter what and all my immediate family being around me, it wasn’t a hard choice for me!”
Following the accident, Schauers’ YouTube channel, which he shares with his wife, has gained thousands of followers as he documents his life through vlogs.
Reiche has been very supportive of him, helping him with his health issues and daily needs while he keeps his fans updated on his life.
She dismissed a question about their sexual activity as ‘disrespectful’ during a recent Q&A session.
She said: “A question we get repeatedly is how do we have sex and how do we become intimate. That is a very personal question that we are never going to answer or allude to, as it’s very disrespectful. You wouldn’t ask a random couple on the street how they have sex, and just because our life circumstances are different, it doesn’t give people the right to ask.”

Amazing. So many times I have almost went over and getting chopped in half never entered my mind. He has to put up with so much just to live now. Even those kidney drains can disrupt your sleep and be a pain in general. That is one tough young man with the nicest wife in the world.

I too have faced death. I was told I’d be sent home on hospice but 3 hours later an organ was made available. I had waited 2 years! I know how this feels, to unexpectedly survive, that is. The mental exhaustion can be debilitating. Life is amazing and with a partner like that? Absolutely! Life, LIFE is good!
What an inspiration to be so strong in your conviction to amputate his damaged body. An his wife is as tuff as he. God sent him an angel for a wife .. he is purely an amazing man.

I really don’t have words to explain what I am feeling in my heart wright now from reading your story. I do know that you are a wonderful testimony! I commend this young couple for hanging in there, when worst seemed to be dispair. The Lord was with you the whole time. But, did anything happen to the fool that caused that accident? I’m a female, now 69 and at age 27 worked on bridges. I was holding a slow sign when this guy brushed up against me. He was going fast. You’re both an awesome couple!
