We come across different objects in our daily life that we might find difficult to understand why they exist, or what they are used for.

However, they might have a wholesome meaning after their strange appearance, and sometimes, they might even come in handy.

1. What is this item? All night we are solving this. It slides open and there is a tiny piece of foam inside

ANSWER: It’s a key fob for a programmable RFID entry system

2. Squishy rubber balls a little less than 1/2 inch in diameter with divots. Found about a dozen in the street outside my house.

3. What is this thing, small blue, and plastic found in the house? no clue what it could be

4. Flying over an area outside of Tucson we saw this hole and it looks like it has water in it.

ANSWER: It’s a pit mine, the spiral you see is the actual road trucks drive on to transport the materials mined from the bottom to the top.

5. Object found in the kitchen of a deceased relative. About 18” long. Puck shaped end is heavy solid metal.

ANSWER: It’s a handheld salamander. You heat the “puck” and hold it over the food to brown or melt the surface cheese, like a french onion soup.

6. Puck of aluminum scratched up as it was on the road. The top section appears to be two individually milled pieces, separated from a lower section by a rubber o-ring. Heavy object rattles inside when shaken. Used bench vise and pipe wrench but unable to separate bottom and top sections.

7. It’s upside but looks to be a feeder or nester of some sort, attached to the top of the fence by the previous owner. What is this thing?

8. Green glass faceted item. Not an ashtray (no groove for a cigarette). It is also hollow, which makes it much different from the paperweights I found on Google.

9. What is this thing hanging outside my fireplace? It seems to have gears inside of it and pivots into the fireplace

10. Metal gun, looks like trigger housing or something, found metal detecting

11. What is this leather thing that was in a subscription box? We can’t figure it out!

13. My husband found this in our new house’s ice maker. It’s jade we think.

14. Little razors attached to some sort of handle…found on top of the fridge. My husband has no idea either

15. WITT? Ceramic pieces that came with a cookie jar but seem unrelated. When searching the cookie jar we’ve found no mention. There are 5 of them.

ANSWER: It’s a ceramic cornucopia — it’s decorative, and you stuff it generously with little goodies spilling out.
