A Brazilian woman, Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes, shocked a bank as she brought in a corpse, attempting to use it for a loan co-signature. The elderly man’s body set a macabre scene.
In the video, the Brazilian woman stands beside the wheelchair of the deceased, appearing to support his drooping head. The footage, broadcast by Brazilian network TV Globo, captures Nunes addressing the deceased as her ‘uncle‘.
According to O Globo, she requested his signature on financial papers for a $3,400 loan, approximately 17,000 Brazilian Reais.
She urged him, “Uncle, are you listening? You need to sign [the loan contract]. If you don’t sign, there’s no way, because I can’t sign for you.” She expressed frustration, pleading, “Sign so you don’t give me any more headaches, I can’t take it anymore.”
Staff inquired about the situation, prompting the Brazilian woman to explain the man’s immobility and unresponsiveness.
She said, “He is like that. He doesn’t say anything. Uncle, do you want to go to the [hospital] again?”
The individual was identified as 68-year-old Paulo Roberto Braga in a report from O Globo.
Upon receiving the alarming news, bank employees immediately contacted the police, resulting in Nunes’ arrest. An investigation has been initiated by authorities, focusing on both Nunes’ actions and the loan he sought.
Following Nunes’ apprehension, it was revealed that Braga had passed away hours before the incident.
Police Chief Fábio Luiz informed TV Globo that the deceased entered the bank while the woman attempted to feign his signature. The investigation aims to uncover more about the loan and identify additional family members involved.
Nonetheless, Nunes’ attorney countered, asserting Braga’s vitality during the incident. Ana Carla de Souza Correa, representing Nunes, stated to O Globo that the events were misrepresented. Paulo was alive upon reaching the bank.
She mentioned testimonies supporting their stance, to be presented in due time. Paulo fell ill post-procedures, requiring clarification. Expressing confidence in Érika’s innocence, they stand firm in their belief.
Nunes could potentially be charged with fraud, embezzlement, or abuse of a corpse.
